We are looking for an individual who is bright, kind, and motivated by challenge to serve as Stitch Fix’s second full time in house employment lawyer for the company’s workforce of over 9,000 employees. As Employment Counsel, you will serve as a subject matter expert in all areas of federal and state employment laws, including recruiting, hiring, immigration, diversity, equity, and inclusion, performance management, terminations, internal investigations, leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations, contingent worker issues, and wage and hour compliance.
You will advise our People & Culture team on nuanced employee issues and guide them on best practices. You’ll also manage litigation filed against the company, including demand letters, administrative charges, single plaintiff litigation and arbitration, and class and representative actions. In addition, you will work with the business and other cross functional partners to provide legal advice and guidance on new programs, policies, and initiatives that significantly impact the growth of our company.

- Advise the People & Culture team and other cross-functional partners on employment decisions, policies, practices and initiatives
- Participate in the creation and delivery of trainings related to employment law matters, such as harassment training and other manager and HR trainings on a variety of topics
- Manage and drive strategy on pre-litigation and litigation matters, managing outside litigation counsel as needed
- Stay abreast of new and proposed employment law developments, best practices, and trends to ensure continued compliance
- Manage, work with, and learn from specialized outside counsel
- Perform other project work or special assignments as needed or desired

WE’RE EXCITED ABOUT YOU BECAUSE YOU HAVE…
- A J.D. and 6 - 8 years of experience practicing employment law, including at least three years at a leading law firm and significant time spent in-house (experience at a tech or retail company is a plus)
- Knowledge of US employment laws (experience in California is a plus)
- Ability to independently identify, prioritize and resolve legal issues, and understand which issues to elevate
- Provide creative and business-focused solutions to challenging issues with the ability to balance legal risk and business impact
- Ability to effectively explain complex legal concepts and influence partners at all levels of the company
- A team-oriented, collaborative disposition and ability to help make your colleagues better
- Subject matter expertise in the areas of leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations and traditional labor is a plus
- Member in good standing of the State Bar of California or member in good standing of another State Bar and able to register as California in house counsel
