Job Description

Title Resources Group (TRG) – the underwriter built for the real estate industry – is one of the nation’s largest title insurance underwriters, according to the American Land Title Association’s 2021 market share data. A joint venture with Centerbridge Partners, L.P. and Realogy Holdings Corp., TRG serves title insurance agents in 37 states and the District of Columbia. Title Resources is seeking an experienced underwriting counsel with real estate title underwriting experience. The ideal candidate will also have business development experience, civil trial experience, a strong work ethic, customer focus and initiative, as well as excellent writing and research skills, and solid academic credentials.

The underwriting responsibilities include providing legal counsel and guidance to customers and internal departments on real estate closings and title insurance matters and determining TRG’s willingness and ability to insure within the parameters of those questions and situations. Training and education are a cornerstone of the services TRG provides to its customers. In that regard, creating and delivering relevant educational topics at live seminars and over webcasts is a required skill. The position also requires support and assistance with business development efforts and assisting with underwriting audits of policy issuing agents.

 The core responsibilities for this role include the following:

  • Promotes the ethical and professional practice of law while interacting with Title Resources’ Team Players, clients, litigants, members of the bar, members of the judiciary and their staff, and all others, while engaged in the practice of law on behalf of clients and Title Resources.
  • Respond to time sensitive requests from customers for guidance in closing real estate transactions and mitigating risk.
  • Establish relationships with new customers and maintain relationships with existing customers to increase market share. Developing new business will be a key component of this role.
  • Prepare and present seminars and presentations on topics of interest to customers.
  • Performs other functions as assigned.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an A.B.A. Accredited Law School.
  • An active member and in good standing with the State Bar of Minnesota.
  • Detailed knowledge of title insurance rates and rules in the State of Minnesota and any other states in which underwriting services are performed.
  • Current resident of Minnesota or possesses the ability to physically work regularly in the state of Minnesota.

Additional Information

  • Other than authorized and pro bono work, incumbents are not permitted to handle any legal business outside of the Company and candidates must cease all outside practice and all suit involvement before joining TRG.
