We are looking for a Senior Compliance Attorney passionate about developing and implementing a team and strategy to help the business operations of Next run fast safely by upholding the highest standards of insurance regulatory compliance. This includes continuing to build out a compliance team that will implement a process for Next to handle and minimize compliance issues while working with cross-functional groups of stakeholder.

The ideal candidate has excellent critical thinking and legal research skills, experience with implementing compliance strategy, a knack for thinking quickly on their feet, and experience navigating insurance regulations and understanding complex regulatory requirements. Responsibilities:

  • Report to Associate General Counsel, Regulatory Affairs in developing and managing our compliance squad
  • Research and provide legal consultation on all major product launches
  • Support the insurance product team and other business segments on issues related to compliance and insurance regulation, including quickly researching and proposing solutions to insurance compliance issues
  • Assemble flexible, cross-functional teams to implement compliance strategy based on an ever-changing regulatory landscape
  • Work with regulatory navigation specialist and government strategy specialist to stay up to date on new and developing legislation and regulation
  • Be able to think creatively to address compliance issues in a way that supports the product team and overall business strategy.
  • Closely monitor compliance issues for the executive staff and develop a strategy to minimize the occurrence of those issues
  • Lead an audit of our product and rate filings to ensure compliance
  • Respond to departments of insurance on consumer complaints and other compliance issues
  • Take charge of knowledge retention across team to ensure no loss of information
  • Manage tight deadlines and relationships with external consulting teams
  • Find strategies and innovate on processes and products that bring efficiency 

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • BA/BS degree from a top university and a JD
  • 5-7 years of experience in insurance compliance and/or regulation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to keep multiple balls in the area and make progress on all fronts
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and meet deadlines
  • Quick learner, rapidly adapts to new technology and concepts
  • Strong accountability
