Legal.io is working with a life sciences research and technology company seeking a contract-based privacy counsel to assist on a full-time basis for a 3 to 6 month term. This organization is seeking either a 100% remote or a Dallas-based privacy counsel interested in hybrid work to support their existing legal teams and business divisions.

What You’ll Do:

Provide specialist legal advice and subject-matter expertise required to support the Company’s privacy program and product development.
Partner with our innovators through all stages of the product and feature development and commercialization lifecycle, while ensuring compliance with applicable global privacy and security regulations for our diverse suite of products, services and partnerships.
Provide specialist consultation and support to key functions, including Product Counsel, Commercial Counsel, Product Development, Trust & Compliance, Security, Public Policy and Marketing/Communications.
Provide sound compliance advice based on up-to-date knowledge of relevant data privacy and security regulations and industry guidelines across global markets, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”), the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR).
Maintain awareness of new laws, enforcement activity and other developments in the privacy domain, manage employee training and drive discussion among key stakeholders across the company to continuously improve organizational privacy practices.

Who You Are:

An experienced privacy counsel with knowledge of HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA
Someone with prior experience in a healthcare of life sciences company
Highly organized and motivated
Able to work well both as part of a team and independently, with a proven track record of success working with senior management
Positive mentality and willingness to tackle new and ever-changing business needs

Required Qualifications:

J.D. from an accredited law school
Active admission to the bar of any state
CIPP certified
5+ years of directly related legal experience
Solid understanding of major privacy laws like GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, and/or PIPEDA

Role Details:

Anticipated Start Date: October 24th
40 hours per week
3-6 months
Hourly Pay Rate: $110 - $130 per hour
