About the Organization:

Nationalities Service Center (NSC) seeks an attorney with a commitment to defending and promoting the rights of immigrants. NSC serves more than 5,000 immigrants and refugees each year from over 110 countries. We provide comprehensive services in immigration law matters, language access and proficiency, community transition and integration, access to health and wellness, and job readiness training for immigrants and refugees. NSC’s mission is to welcome and empower immigrants to thrive in our communities and pursue a just future. Our vision is that all immigrants achieve a life of safety and stability, sustainable opportunities, and meaningful community connections.

NSC immigration attorneys represent clients in removal proceedings in both detained and non-detained settings and provide services in matters of family reunification, humanitarian relief for adults and children fleeing persecution, assistance to survivors of crime, naturalization, and other forms of relief. NSC’s legal team also engages in advocacy and education efforts addressing local, state, and federal immigration policies.

About the Position:

The Immigrant Justice program provides free legal assistance to low-income individuals who face significant challenges to obtaining representation. The program represents unaccompanied children, individuals without permanent shelter, persons in long-term care facilities, individuals fleeing persecution, those who have suffered significant financial hardships due to the pandemic or other causes, and immigrants seeking other forms of humanitarian relief. Through this program, NSC also works with community-based organizations to offer free legal clinics and to provide legal information about DACA, citizenship, and other immigration policies.

NSC is currently seeking an attorney to primarily represent Afghan humanitarian parolees, refugees, and SIVs through our Immigrant Justice program. The Staff Attorney will represent clients in immigration court hearings, appeals before the BIA and federal courts, and matters before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and U.S. Department of State. The Staff Attorney will perform outreach and training to educate the community on relevant policies and available forms of relief.

Qualifications:

NSC seeks a dynamic lawyer with experience representing immigrants before USCIS and in EOIR removal proceedings, or with other experience demonstrating a commitment to immigrant and refugee rights. One or more years of immigration law practice is preferred. Clinical experience will be considered. Applicants must possess the following: excellent research, writing, and courtroom advocacy skills; strong communication and interpersonal skills; capacity and desire to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams; and, strong organizational skills to manage a high-volume, fast-paced legal practice environment.

Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto is preferred.

Attorneys must be members in good standing of the bar of the highest court of any State, the District of Columbia (D.C.), a U.S. possession, U.S. territory, or U.S. commonwealth.

Compensation and Benefits:
The annual salary range for this position is $52,000 - $56,000, with a generous, comprehensive benefits package.
