Publicly traded underwriter, Investors Title Insurance Company, is seeking a collaborative, supportive and highly motivated Underwriting Counsel to add to our team. The Underwriting Counsel will provide underwriting support and guidance to the Company’s agents and approved attorneys in GA, FL and SC, by using sound risk analysis and assessment as well as mitigate risk in the GA Market through the assessment of the company’s’ underwriting and agent practices as well as its capabilities. Additionally, the Underwriting Counsel will participate in and materially contribute to the company’s sales effort to sign additional agents, increase the capture rates form multi underwriter agents, and enhance agent communications and develop iUniversity courses to ensure expanded branding of Investors Title and mitigate risks among agents appointed in GA.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately and consistently apply the Company’s underwriting policy while discussing legal questions and underwriting issues with agents and approved attorneys in GA and FL.
  • Direct and oversee the process to review and approve prospective Agents and Approved Attorneys in GA.
  • Develop, implement and manage procedures for identifying high risk agents by reviewing claims notices and GA related activity in the Claims System, and participating in the Corporate Claims Risk Management meetings. Maximize the risk management efforts of the Audit Department by reviewing and providing feedback on GA Audit practices. Perform other functions related to risk management as needed.
  • Personal participation in sales activities and contribute to the marketing efforts to achieve market share goals.
  • Maximize the efforts of Agent Support personnel and iUniversity Training Development to strengthen agent relationships and minimize risk.
  • Contribute to other miscellaneous projects and initiatives that may arise in the course of business in GA and throughout the Company.

Position Qualifications:

  • Law degree from an accredited school of law
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • A minimum of three years of real estate or title insurance experience
  • Knowledge of settlement process preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in use of online legal research databases
