Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive service as a Senior Attorney or one year of permanent, competitive service in a title eligible for transfer under 52.6 or 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, AND admission to the New York State Bar.

Duties Description
Under the direction of the ITS Litigation and Investigations Counsels, within the Chief General Counsel the position provides the following legal services to ITS program areas, project teams, IT Clusters and executive management. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Processing all of the agency’s Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests,
  • Assisting the Office of Administration with the legal aspects of the agency’s background check process, including criminal history reviews under Article 23-A of the New York State Correction Law,
  • Providing legal counsel to the agency in support of the Office of Human Resources administration of Reasonable Accommodations and compliance with the ADA,
  • Drafting and review of legal documents as necessary,
  • Providing counsel on personal privacy protection issues,
  • Assisting the Supervising Attorney and Associate Attorney assigned to the litigation portfolio within ITS DLA, including administrative matters and court proceedings; drafting, reviewing and providing legal assistance on agency policies and procedures.

This is an Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) position in the Chief General Counsel’s Office and will be located in the Swan Street Building, Core 4, Empire State Plaza, Albany.

Candidates must also have a current registration to practice law in New York State and must maintain that registration for continued employment. Disbarment or loss of registration shall result in termination or suspension of employment.
