The Salesforce legal team delivers innovative, trusted and world-class legal services to advance and protect Salesforce’s interests, while creating a fulfilling work environment for our legal family. Salesforce seeks to hire an in-house lawyer for the AMER region to join the Global Employment Legal Team, reporting to the AMER Senior Director and indirectly reporting to the VP, Global Labor & Employment.  The position will be focused on providing employment law counseling to the Employee Success and Employee Relations organizations, the business, and other stakeholders in the AMER region, as well as collaborating with other Employment Legal Team members on US disputes. The successful candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, be highly responsive and service-oriented, have the ability to organize, prioritize and manage deadlines in a fast-based, dynamic, and demanding work environment, and show excellent, practical business judgment.  

This role is open to be office-flex to Salesforce’s office in Seattle, San Francisco, Portland (Oregon), or Indianapolis; for a highly qualified candidate, this role may be fully remote elsewhere (with a preference for Pacific Time work hours).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice on employment related matters, which may include: hiring and recruiting, investigations, discipline and termination, leaves of absence, disability accommodation, wage and hour, anti-discrimination, compensation and benefits (including sales compensation plans and bonus programs), non-competition and non-solicitation, protection of confidential information, and other issues. 

  • Handle legal demand letters, charges and other disputes.

  • Collaborate with other employment attorneys on disputes and litigation.

  • Evaluate and work with outside counsel on employment related matters, including litigation.  

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies.  

  • Participate in and influence the decision-making process with appropriate clients and stakeholders.

  • Consistently anticipate, communicate and propose mitigation strategies for potential risks in active projects. Identify and assess legal risks and opportunities and advise accordingly.

  • Handle legal projects ranging from basic to complex.  

  • Recognize when to elevate certain matters to the attention of the legal leadership.  

  • Educate internal clients and stakeholders on legal matters, policies and procedures.  

  • Establish and maintain relationships, credibility and trust with clients, stakeholders, legal team members and other colleagues. 

  • Travel to team meetings in San Francisco or other scheduled locations (depending on then-applicable COVID-19 protocols). 

 

Required Skills/Experience

  • 5+ years of legal practice in employment law. 

  • Excellent academic credentials. 

  • Member of at least one state bar, preferably California, Washington, Oregon, New York, Indiana or Illinois.

  • Experience providing employment law advice, including practical applications and issue-spotting.

  • Experience in employment litigation in one or more states, including California, Washington, Oregon, Illinois and/or New York.

  • Experience responding to federal and state/local agency charges.

  • Experience preparing employment policies and training materials.

  • Proven ability to provide tailored, practical, and commercial advice in a user-friendly manner.

  • Experience managing multi-jurisdictional projects.

 

Desired Skills/Experience

  • 1+ year in-house experience (this experience could be secondment-based).

  • Experience providing advice directly to clients.

  • Experience working with compensation and benefits programs (including sales compensation plans and bonus programs).

  • Experience working with a US multinational and/or publicly-traded company.

  • Experience working with a tech company.
