Licensing Associate/Junior Paralegal (Compliance)

This position is based at the company’s headquarters in Chicago, IL.

Verano Holdings is a national, vertically-integrated operator of licensed cannabis cultivation, manufacturing, and retail facilities.

This role supports the Legal, Compliance, and Government Affairs teams by assisting with licensing, registration, and regulatory matters, as well as other cannabis compliance and legal-related duties.

The ideal candidate must have strong organizational skills, be able to work collaboratively to oversee multiple projects at once and use analytical skills to solve complex problems under rigorous timelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with relevant departments to gather information needed for the timely submission of various regulatory applications, agent registrations, and license renewals.
  • Analyzes and interprets regulations to coordinate agent registrations and license renewal submissions.
  • Ensures all employees, owners, officers, board members, and agents remain properly licensed, registered, and undergo required training in all markets.
  • Serves as a resource to clarify, monitor, and research regulatory requirements for licensing matters.
  • Maintains a database and other reference materials related to regulatory, compliance, and licensure issues.
  • Assists with developing standardized documents and implementation tools for compliance plans and operational procedures.
  • Prepares and files legal and regulatory documents, including business licenses, tax registrations, and local permits.
  • Provides support for recurring inventory and compliance reports to government agencies.
  • Assists with compliance audits and remediation of potential compliance issues as necessary.
  • Provides general administrative support to legal and compliance departments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Paralegal certification a plus.
  • A minimum 1-3 years’ compliance experience in a compliance role supporting an executive team.
  • Excellent organization and project management skills; experience with credentialing is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
