Job Description

About the team

The Zillow Group Legal and Compliance Department is a dedicated team of skilled (and fun!) Legal professionals who enjoy working in a congenial environment within an innovative, fast-paced tech and media company. This role is part of the Business Lines Legal Team, which provides the frontline support for Zillow’s products and services.
We are looking for an outstanding attorney to provide legal, regulatory and product support to our StreetEasy businesses. While serving as the legal point-of-contact for the business line, this attorney will be responsible for handling a broad range of legal matters, with a focus on real estate portal legal compliance, NYC brokerage operations, real estate rules and regulations, advertising, software and data licensing, marketing, promotions, and general product support.

Just as important as providing quick and accurate legal advice will be this attorney’s ability to collaborate with others to ensure the right Legal and Compliance team members are looped in at the right time. Supporting StreetEasy requires a willingness to learn new areas of law while also understanding when to call in subject matter experts. Above all, this attorney should have demonstrated expertise in New York City licensed residential real estate operations, offer creative solutions to sophisticated problems and excel at building strong relationships with both clients and colleagues.

About the role

  • Serve as legal point of contact and subject matter expert to StreetEasy business and product teams. Support includes regulatory analysis, real estate compliance, product design and copy, marketing collateral, vendor / partner contracts, customer service scripts / escalations, data use & privacy implications and applicable disclosures
  • Embed yourself during the ideation stage with StreetEasy product teams to provide tactical and pragmatic legal advice for special projects, pilot programs and critical initiatives
  • Proactively partner with cross-functional business teams and shared services (e.g., privacy, finance, compliance, risk, real estate licensing, communications, and marketing) to identify and resolve novel legal matters that arise during the creation of new products and services
  • Negotiate advertising agreements with top national customers
  • Draft, review, and negotiate inbound and outbound data licensing and other commercial agreements
  • Review and support implementation of contests and sweepstakes, including rules and related marketing documentation
  • Analyze and strategize with government relations and tax teams on proposed legislative changes that impact StreetEasy
  • Be instrumental to the success of a rapidly growing, innovative platform
