About the role

Zillow Group’s Legal & Compliance team is looking for an outstanding intellectual property and marketing attorney who thrives in a dynamic and collaborative environment. This lawyer will provide counseling on all IP-related issues; run and defend our IP portfolios and program; and support our brand marketing efforts. Applicants will excel in attention to detail, possess excellent communication skills and ability to foster positive relationships across functions and levels.

 

In this role, you will

  • Help the business protect its IP portfolio through USPTO filings and diligent practices: guide employees through process of identifying ideas/filing patent applications, clear use of names/terms and file trademark applications, maintain framework for maximum protection of content created by/on behalf of company, ensure proper licensing of Zillow Group's IP portfolio, respond to reports of third-party use of Zillow Group IP
  • Provide legal support and guidance on issues related to trademarks, patents, copyrights, trade secrets, and other forms of intellectual property
  • Collaborate with a broad range of legal peers to support traditional and digital media marketing efforts and other integrated campaign
  • Provide sound, practical advice and guidance senior business leaders that help accomplish company objectives
  • Provide advice and subsequent review and approval for marketing output in all forms, including online social marketing, assessing advertising claims substantiation, clearing creative content for IP and right of publicity, and draft disclosures and disclaimers, among other duties
  • Negotiate marketing and advertising related agreements, (including endorsement/talent/influencers, agency, vendor, font and music licenses, and production)

 

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.

In Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada and New York City the standard base pay range for this role is $170,200.00 - $271,800.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada and New York City and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

 

Who you are

  • 7+ years of IP law experience, with at least 4 years’ in an in-house counsel role
  • Experience supervising a company’s IP portfolio (including counseling on effective IP strategy options, performing trademark searches/clearances and handling outside counsel)
  • Broad-based experience supporting marketing teams at an internet, technology, and/or media company
  • A responsive project manager, skilled at communicating (orally and in writing) with business partners
  • Aptitude for innovative and results oriented problem solving
  • Able to demonstrate good judgment and evaluate risk while considering the larger picture
  • Conscientious, detail-orientated, and meticulous practitioner
  • JD with active state bar admission
