Job Description

Fluor Corporation seeks to hire an Intellectual Property Attorney for its Irving, Texas office. This candidate will report to Assistant General Counsel – Information Technology and Intellectual Property. Although the primary focus of this position will be to advise on intellectual property matters, this candidate should also be willing to take on general corporate work, including advising on: corporate housekeeping activities, privacy and security compliance, and supply chain and digital contracts procurement.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Overseeing maintenance of Fluor’s patent portfolio, including generating reports for management
  • Evaluating new inventions and opportunities to monetize patents and align with business strategies
  • Overseeing opposition and dispute matters involving intellectual property
  • Centralizing management and administration of Fluor IP licensing activities
  • Drafting and negotiating confidentiality, license and assignment agreements relating to Fluor technology
  • Drafting and negotiating intellectual property and data privacy and security terms in project contracts
  • Advising internal clients of IP protections and providing training
  • Facilitating Intellectual Property Committee meetings, including gathering, communicating, and documenting information relating to filing decisions
  • Conducting IP due diligence and IP landscape analyses
  • Providing guidance on joint venture arrangements and intellectual property contributions
  • Assisting with merger and acquisition activity with regard to registered and unregistered IP and hardware and software assets
  • Advising on procurement activities
  • Drafting practices and resolutions
  • Performing and applying legal research and communicating results to relevant stakeholders

Basic Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferred)
  • Law degree from accredited law school
  • Certified to practice law in the State of Texas
  • Licensed member of Patent Bar (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and manage outside counsel
  • Minimum of 3-6 years of experience working as an attorney specializing in intellectual property at an oil & gas, energy or construction company, or at a law firm supporting clients in such industries
  • Outstanding project management, organizational & critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication & writing skills
