Position Summary:

We are seeking a IP Paralegal to support our Intellectual Property Vice President. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with internal legal staff, inventors, and outside counsel to manage patent practice activities.

This is a full-time opportunity at our Somerville, MA location. The role can be a combo of onsite and work from home, but must be onsite 2 days per week at minimum.

As an IP Paralegal you will:

  • Use CPI for patent matter creation, maintenance, monitoring, and docket management
  • Correspond with internal legal staff, inventors, and outside counsel to manage patent practice formalities including collection and execution of formal documents (POAs, declarations, assignments)
  • Prepare documents for filing patent applications with the USPTO
  • Work with vendors, attorneys and foreign agents to file national phase patent applications
  • Maintain current knowledge of patent rules and procedures, both domestic and international.
  • Provide assistance and backup to IP Operations Manager and complete special projects as needed

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of experience as a patent paralegal or patent assistant at a law firm
  • 2+ years supporting a Biotech or Pharma company
  • Excellent working knowledge of US and foreign patent prosecution procedures
  • Trademark experience
  • Experience corresponding with clients and external counsel (US and foreign), managing a docket, and completing USPTO forms needed
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, electronic docketing systems (e.g., CPI) and various patent web portals including PAIR, Patent Center and Espacenet
  • Great attention to detail and follow-through

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of the company and inventor information
  • Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and handle shifting priorities without dropping the ball
  • Willingness and desire to learn new skills and take on new projects
