HOW YOU'LL HELP US KEEP CLIMBING (OVERVIEW & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES)

The Senior Paralegal - Passenger Litigation will support the Passenger Litigation team within the Delta Air Lines Law Department by calendaring and tracking domestic and international passenger small claims litigation, researching, and collecting pertinent Delta records, and working with Delta colleagues, as well as in-house and external counsel (as appropriate), to timely respond to and resolve passenger small claims litigation.  The successful candidate will be part of a team of legal professionals with a mission to deliver top-quality and cost-conscious legal solutions to passenger litigation, while using technology to increase efficiency. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, comfortable working in a diverse, fast-paced, collaborative environment, and must possess sound judgment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to operate independently with general supervision.     

This position is based at Delta’s Corporate Offices in Atlanta and will report to the Assistant General Counsel, Litigation. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Follow established protocols for intaking and tracking international and domestic passenger small claims complaints though Outlook Calendar and QuickBase platforms.
  • Become familiar with Delta’s Contract of Carriage and related policies applicable to passenger travel and refunds.
  • Become familiar with and stay up to date on the flight regulations and laws governing passenger travel for the US and foreign countries (e.g. DOT regulations, Montreal Convention, EU261, APPR, etc).
  • Become familiar with BSP and ARC document retrieval services for international and domestic ticket refund information.
  • Use Delta technology systems to collect relevant passenger and flight information to support the defense of passenger small claims litigation.
  • Work with internal Delta business partners to collect records necessary to research domestic and international passenger small claims complaints. 
  • Build and maintain good rapport with other department Managers/organizations to help better facilitate the gathering of necessary documents and information.
  • Establish, build, and maintain strong working relationships with outside attorneys hired to defend Delta in passenger litigation around the world and assist them in defending and resolving passenger litigation claims.
  • Prepare invoices for payment of legal settlements and/or judgments.
  • Prepare and process check requests to issue passenger claims payments.
  • Identify opportunities to innovate and improve existing processes and procedures.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Paralegal certification, university degree, or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of law firm or in-house legal experience preferred.
  • Must uphold highest standards of discretion and confidentiality.

  • Possess proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States

 

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE EDGE (PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Prior experience dealing with domestic small claims court or international authorities and international counsel.
  • Knowledge of Delta systems such as Spils, PNR, DLTerm32, and OPS systems.
  • Fluency in two or more languages.
