About You and The Role
The Zipline Legal Team is searching for a proactive and curious lawyer to play a key role in developing, implementing, and scaling Zipline’s global compliance function. In this role, you’ll join a lean Legal Team and work on a variety of substantive and impactful compliance matters that span across a number of geographies and subject matter (e.g., international risk, trade, employment, privacy, healthcare, product, etc.). On a given day, you may tackle a sensitive Nigerian employment law question in the morning and turn to a fascinating export control licensing issue in the afternoon. You’ll be at the center of a strong, friendly, passionate, and growing in-house legal function and will work closely with each of the six members of the Legal Team, ultimately reporting to Zipline’s General Counsel.

- Advise Zipline’s business and engineering teams on healthcare, data privacy and protection, and other regulatory regimes
- Manage day-to-day and ambient work flowing from Zipline’s export control, anti-bribery and anti-corruption, and sanctions compliance programs
- Support Zipline’s Deputy General Counsel for Compliance and Investigations and the People Team with conducting and documenting independent internal investigations
- Program manage and support Zipline’s commercial entrance into new international and national markets, including states within the U.S. to ensure compliance with national, state, and local regulations
- Draft and maintain key documentation for company-wide compliance functions, including regulatory filings, due diligence and KYC requests, certifications, and training records
- Develop and maintain Zipline’s compliance calendar and compliance tracking systems
- Draft, update, and maintain Zipline’s global legal and compliance policies
- Partner with the Zipline’s Legal and People Teams to build engaging, practical, and clear legal and compliance training programs for team members around the world
- Wake up every day asking yourself what you can do to improve Zipline’s “culture of compliance” and to empower our various lines of business to understand the rules of the road, operate ethically, and embody a strong “first line of defense” to spot problems
What You'll Bring
- Willingness to get in the weeds and dive headfirst into whatever pressing issue or challenge is facing the business, regardless of familiarity or interest
- Adept at breaking complex, fuzzy, or sprawling legal questions into discrete components and distinguishing between high- and low-priority issues
- Effectiveness in translating legal rules and regulations into clear, practical, and actionable processes and advice that business teams can understand and implement
- The confidence to make independent judgment calls with conviction–and the instincts to recognize when issues require escalation or input from others
- Responsiveness and have a positive, solution-oriented attitude
- An ability to manage effectively to deadlines, even with competing priorities
- Effective communication skills (verbally and in writing)
- Ensure that legal outputs and deliverables cogent, and at the same time have the ability to “show your work” and dig deeply into critical legal questions

- Member in good standing of at least one state bar
- At least two years of relevant legal experience (at a reputable law firm and/or in-house)
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
