Job Summary:
Under the umbrella of the newly created Global Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) compliance team and a new USFS organizational design for the EHS team, this role will provide site support for all business units within USFS. The role exists to provide intermediate-level site EHS expertise to these business units, support the field safety team, and help implement the global EHS management system.
The role aims to accomplish the following:
Supporting their sites in executing on our various EHS processes including EHS-related training, environmental compliance, occupational health and safety, workers’ compensation, transportation safety, contractor management, and business continuity. Identifying, assessing, and controlling workplace hazards. Escalating resistance/challenges to leadership and direct line manager to facilitate problem-solving.
Position Summary:
This position serves on the Global EHS Compliance team and supports enterprise-wide compliance activities in the area of environmental compliance, ensuring alignment with business strategies and operational requirements. This role is responsible for creating and implementing an enterprise-wide, global environmental compliance strategy and framework to align the approach to environmental compliance in every jurisdiction Sysco operates. This position will partner with leaders throughout the enterprise to build both global and local capabilities in the area of environmental compliance. The position also provides guidance to global environmental compliance professionals and influences site, regional and global business partners to drive prioritization of regulatory compliance, continuous performance improvement, and integration of environmental compliance into standard work processes and business objectives.
Primary Responsibilities:

Monitor, interpret, and assess existing or emerging environmental laws, regulations, regulatory policy, internal protocols, and industry practices to determine operational and business impacts and develop, integrate, and execute global environmental compliance strategies, policies, programs, procedures, standards, training, processes and actions throughout the enterprise to manage applicable requirements

Identify, develop, implement and sustain enterprise-wide tools and platforms for facilitating global environmental compliance

Partner with leaders throughout the organization to understand business needs and appropriately balance global and local priorities

Perform environmental compliance applicability reviews and environmental risk assessments and implement effective programs, procedures, processes and systems to ensure regulatory compliance and protect associates, communities and the environment

Develop and implement global environmental compliance KPIs, report on KPIs internally and externally, as needed

Manage enterprise-wide impact of environmental incidents to determine root cause and implement corrective actions and leverage lessons learned from incidents to continuously improve environmental compliance programs

Partner and collaborate with the business and support functions to influence and manage environmental compliance resources across the enterprise, balancing business and operational needs

Drive the development and implementation of global environmental compliance programs

Work in conjunction with legal personnel to oversee regulatory agency and external stakeholders regarding environment compliance activities, including reporting, visits, or inspections

Support environmental compliance integration processes for new sites/acquisitions
Education:
-
BS/MS in environmental/civil/chemical engineering, sustainability, environmental studies or related science degree

Strong knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 14001 Lead Auditor Certification (highly valued)
Experience:
-
10+ years of progressive experience leading Environmental initiatives and working within an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) program, preferably in a large, multi-national company

Demonstrated experience in driving change in a large, global, matrixed environment

Experience prioritizing and managing multiple projects concurrently

Project management experience

Experience establishing and maintaining multiple cross-functional working relationships with geographically dispersed individuals

Demonstrated ability to develop a business case in support of Environmental initiatives

Experience communicating with and influencing leadership

Experience developing and implementing goals and strategies based on organization goals
