The Sr. Attorney supporting the global ethics and compliance program is responsible for providing accurate, relevant, and timely advice to legal and business partners and helping to ensure compliance with US and international laws with regulations that apply to our business. You will own the design, implementation and administration of various enterprise policies and procedures, including the Code of Conduct and records management policies and retention schedules. You will lead and support the company’s compliance risk assessment process and the design, implementation, and deployment of various programs, including compliance training. This position will also provide legal advice and counsel concerning third-party compliance matters, international retail initiatives, and various laws, rules and regulations that affect the retail industry, including those related to anti-corruption and sanctions.

Key responsibilities and areas of focus include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing legal advice counsel to key business leaders to ensure that business units and team members promote an organizational culture that supports compliance and ethical behavior
  • Develop, publish and coordinate enterprise ethics and compliance policies in accordance with applicable regulation(s), standard processes, and internal procedures
  • Perform periodic compliance and ethics risk assessments
  • Key advisor on ethics and compliance matters such as investigations, policy administration and governance for cross-functional partners
  • Support Internal Audit processes and team on audits, compliance surveys, and risk assessments
  • Lead or support ethics hotline administration, internal investigations, remediation of misconduct, and root cause analyses, in connection with investigation discovery and outcomes
  • Engagement with multiple internal partners, outside counsel, internal/external forensic auditors and others related to investigations, compliance initiatives, or other special projects
  • Lead and support policies and processes involving conflicts of interest disclosures, delegations of authority, and third-party relationships

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in a law firm and/or corporate legal department; some in-house counsel experience preferred
  • Experience and shown knowledge of regulations and standard processes applicable to global corporate compliance programs
  • Experience leading internal investigations and matters involving anti-corruption compliance, fraud and employee misconduct, compliance risk assessments, job aids, and training programs.
  • Outstanding verbal, presentation, and written communication skills, including an ability to communicate sophisticated legal issues and compliance risks in simple terms
  • Ability to effectively form relationships, collaborate with cross-functional partners and lead by influence
  • Practical problem-solving skills, including strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle a large volume of work and meet critical timelines
  • Ability to work autonomously while leading and developing a team
  • Quick learner who operates with a high degree of professionalism, integrity, and EQ

Education:

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school
    Licensed to practice law and in good standing with any US state bar
