Job Description

Role Purpose

The role of Vice President, Consumer Protection Compliance, within the Corporate Legal Department, will serve to coordinate and provide oversight to all business units across NBCUniversal to comply with consumer protection laws.  This role will report to the Chief Compliance Officer. 

Job Duties

  • Coordinate with government and regulatory affairs to identify and track applicable global consumer protection laws (including international, federal, and state), as well as other regulations and industry standards
  • Serve as a center of excellence, and support NBCUniversal’s compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards related to consumer touchpoints across business units
  • Work with legal teams across NBCUniversal, particularly those supporting subscription services, live events, shoppable platforms, and theme parks, to monitor and comply with applicable consumer protection laws efficiently and consistently
  • Develop and conduct comprehensive business risk assessments to identify potential areas of vulnerability and risk, and develop/implement risk mitigation and corrective action plans for areas of heightened risk, or where opportunities exist for enhancements
  • Provide sound, practical, and risk-appropriate legal/regulatory advice to internal legal teams and business units encompassing a broad range of topics, including billing practices, credit and finance, accessibility, ticketing, and product safety, as well as areas adjacent to advertising/marketing and privacy
  • Manage, track, and follow up on status of compliance with legal requirements across the business units
  • Coordinate with Compliance counterparts at Comcast Cable and Sky
  • Other matters as needed at the direction of NBCUniversal’s General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Must be a member in good standing of a State Bar
  • 10+ years of legal experience, including in-house experience, service in a top tier law firm and/or relevant government position (Federal Trade Commission, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau)
  • Knowledge of applicable US, state and global consumer protection laws and industry standards

  • Ability to multi-task and to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong work ethic

Application Information

  • Must be willing to work in New York, NY, Washington D.C, Los Angeles, CA, or Miami, FL and travel occasionally as needed
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime, and on weekends with short notice
  • This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week
