ROLE OVERVIEW 

Goldman Sachs is seeking a driven and entrepreneurial paralegal to join its bank regulatory and deposits legal team. This paralegal will be expected to support back office reviews of probate, escheatment, and trust and estates matters for our retail deposits business. 

As part of Goldman Sachs’s legal team, this paralegal will be involved in coordinating and reviewing regulatory and compliance matters applicable to retail deposits, including examining court and other certified documents to determine acceptance under various state laws, reviewing marketing and servicing materials to identify changes in legal requirements, providing assistance with drafting disclosures and other client documentation, coordinating with business and legal colleagues on policies and procedures, and performing legal research on key issues. This paralegal will work closely with attorneys and other stakeholders in in the retail deposits business, helping the firm to build and grow a full service digital banking platform.  The position will also be broadly engaged with Legal, Compliance & Risk colleagues globally, and is expected to forge substantive relationships within the firm as well as externally to support the growth of the retail deposits business.

S/he is expected to be a very proactive in matters spanning Project Management and Risk Management & Governance.    

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform legal research on key issues
  • Examine court orders and certified documents for acceptance under state law
  • Attend various business risk and control meetings 
  • Analyze business materials to identify potential legal issues
  • Draft communications, forms and disclosures
  • Review policies and procedures, standard operating procedures

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from a top university
  • Paralegal Certificate
  • At least 5 years’ experience at a law firm and/or courthouse 
  • Familiarity with various state laws, including the Probate, Unclaimed Property, Trust and Estate, as well as federal and state laws governing unfair, deceptive and abusive acts and practices (UDAAP)
  • Consumer banking experience a plus
  • Excellent speaking and presentation skills
  • Highly responsive, with a strong sense of urgency, and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to juggle multiple internal clients and projects at the same time
