Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal department advising on science and technology, product liability, privacy, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, artificial intelligence, or machine learning.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 6 years of experience advising on artificial intelligence, machine learning technology and related issues.
  • Ability to build relationships and establish credibility with business leaders.
  • Ability to work comfortably and be conversational across different business functions and lines of business.
  • Ability to be flexible in a fast-moving environment with limited direction, balance engaging priorities, and manage several time-sensitive projects at once.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage a high volume of requests and work on cutting edge artificial intelligence focused on legal issues.

As Corporate Counsel at Google, you work on the most exciting legal issues as disruptive technological innovations require creative and proactive legal guidance. You're part of a whip-smart group of in-house lawyers and the projects and cases you take on challenge you to think big and differently. You are collaborative -- ready to partner in initiatives that influence all aspects of the business and work with Googlers from all over the company. As an integrated part of the team, you proactively assess legal risks and advise on products that will not only move information into the 21st century, but move information law forward as well.

In this role, you will work with product managers, engineers and researchers to discover new technologies and deliver products to improve people’s lives and advance the field of artificial intelligence. You will work closely with product, business, and cross-functional teams in counseling new products and services, from research and development to launch and beyond. You will be responsible for a mixed portfolio of work and advice on a wide range of legal issues including privacy, intellectual property, security, marketing, consumer protection, etc.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$290,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Provide solution-oriented legal advice to teams including engineering, product management, and business development from the initial stages of product research and development to launch and beyond.
  • Ensure compliance with the United States and international laws/regulations managing privacy, intellectual property, security, marketing, consumer protection.
  • Partner with leadership of multiple teams on product strategy in complex legal areas.
