Attorney Brief Writer/Briefing Attorney
Job Description
Our rapidly growing plaintiff's personal injury law firm is seeking a full-time Brief Writer to join our team! You’ll research important, complex legal issues in our personal injury cases and brief these issues while working closely with the Managing Partner.
Candidate must possess a VERY HIGH level of focus and organization.
Brief Writer Scope of Work
- This is a permanent, full-time position that involves research and writing ONLY
- This position will NOT evolve into litigation
- No proofreading will be provided
- Brief writer will prepare and mail their own documents
Brief Writer Qualifications
- Some after-hours, holiday, and weekend availability may be required with notice
- Bachelor’s degree is REQUIRED
- Minimum 2 years at a single company is REQUIRED
- Minimum 5 years' brief writing experience in plaintiff's personal injury experience is REQUIRED
- Personal injury / mass torts litigation experience is REQUIRED
- Trial court writing experience is REQUIRED
- Appellate experience is strongly preferred
Additional Qualifications
- Superior computer literacy is REQUIRED
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office is REQUIRED
- Superior proficiency in Microsoft Word is strongly preferred
- Smart Advocate experience is strongly preferred
- Mac OS X proficiency is strongly preferred
- Ability to thrive in a paperless environment is REQUIRED
- Comfortability with VOIP phones is strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of litigation strategy is REQUIRED
- Strong understanding of personal injury law is REQUIRED
- Strong understanding of legal deadlines is REQUIRED
- Superior level of organization is REQUIRED
- Strong writing skills is REQUIRED
- Strong research skills with footnote citations is REQUIRED
- Strong proficiency in document review-based writing without dictation or transcription is REQUIRED
- Strong proficiency in Bluebook citation format is REQUIRED
- Strong knowledge of state and federal court rules is REQUIRED
- Ability to file in state court without assistance is REQUIRED
- Strong proficiency in independent document review is REQUIRED
Office Environment
- Location: This is an in-office position only (please do not apply if you cannot reliably commute to the office daily)
- Dress Code: Casual Dress
- Hours: 9 hours daily. Start and stop times may be adjusted for commuters
- PTO: Up to 30 days of paid leave/personal time with paid holidays
- Compensation: Up to $85,000* (based on experience, education, and performance)
- Compensation listed is maximum and presupposes completion of all required skills and job requirements and would be adjusted accordingly based on inability to meet any such requirements or skills.

- Juris Doctor (Required)
Minimum Experience Required:
- Trial Court Legal Writing: 5 years (Appellate work not helpful)
- Plaintiff's Personal Injury: 3 years
