Job Details

General Summary:

Provides advice and counsel to various departments of the company on labor and employment matters and the company’s strategic initiatives. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervises, manages, and evaluates outside counsel on employment related matters including litigation

  • Provide legal advice regarding labor and employment issues to wide variety of corporate departments, stores, distribution centers and other functional groups
  • Review and draft company policies and handbooks to ensure compliance with federal and state labor and employment laws.   
  • Represent the Company in labor and employment matters filed with state and federal agencies, including preparation and review of Company responses to charges and complaints of discrimination.  
  • Assist in developing, preparing and providing training regarding labor and employment practices. 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Previous labor/employment and litigation management experience.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations, and to deliver sound, practical legal advice.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent negotiating skills.
  • Independently handles employment matters and project ranging from basic to complex
  • Strong leadership skills with which to build consensus and persuasively overcome obstacles.
  • Familiarity with state and federal employment laws including FMLA, FLSA, OSHA, ADA, ERISA and other relevant statutes.

Work Experience &/or Education:

  • Juris Doctor degree from accredited law school; member of a state bar.
  • Three to five years specific employment law experience required.
  • Law firm experience preferred.
