Corporate Counsel, Project Kuiper (Satellites)

Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. We are looking for a talented lawyer to join the Amazon Legal team supporting Project Kuiper.

Key job responsibilities

You will be embedded with the Kuiper commercial Business Development and Operations team and act as lead counsel for operations-related transactions. This includes structuring, drafting and negotiating agreements for provision and procurement of professional services globally, as well as supporting a range of other agreements for Kuiper’s commercial business operations. The successful candidate will develop strategies for handling legal issues in creative, business-centric ways and build processes that address risk and allow the business flexibility and freedom to move quickly.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about technology, enjoys being continually challenged, and demonstrates sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.

Export Control Requirement

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

This position will be based in Redmond, WA. Some travel, domestic and international, will be required.

Basic Qualifications

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active membership in one state bar
  • 5+ years experience as an attorney
  • 2+ years of experience drafting and negotiating commercial transactions

Preferred Qualifications

  • A mix of law firm and in-house experience a plus
  • Experience working in the satellite, space or terrestrial telecommunications industries
  • Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $123,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
