Job Summary

This is an opportunity to join a fast-growing $650 million revenue Commercial Printing and Marketing Services Company with locations across the United States and Canada. This Company is in an acquisitive phase of its life cycle, looking to grow both organically and through targeted investments and acquisitions of existing enterprises within the commercial printing, signage, and eCommerce industries.

We are looking for an excellent General Counsel to add value to and be the “backbone” of our business. This position will report to the Founder. You will ensure that company always operates within the law, offer counsel on legal issues, negotiate agreements with customers and vendors, mitigate risks, and contribute to strategic decision-making. The successful candidate will be able to ensure legal compliance and limit risk exposure.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Provide expert and strategic legal advice to the executive management team.
  • Establish internal governance policies and manage the impact of external factors.
  • Evaluate and assess the multiple inputs and impacts of any decision or courses of action.
  • Anticipate issues and estimate risks strategically.
  • Identify proactive solutions to eliminate or mitigate risks.
  • Base your decision-making process on principles of ethics and integrity.
  • Create associations of trust and respect with key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal and external parties (internal leadership, regulators, external counsel, politicians, clients).
  • Attract, develop, direct, motivate and drive performance from team.
  • Draft agreements that minimize risks and maximize legal rights.
  • Meet legal objectives and handle complex, significant matters that cut across legal and related areas.
  • Stay abreast of legislative changes and ensure ongoing compliance.

Basic Qualifications

Required:

  • BSc degree in Law or J.D. degree.
  • MA or BSc in Business Administration will be considered an asset.
  • 7+ years of experience, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in private practice.
  • Proven experience in managing legal functions for organizations with $500M+ revenue.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Preferred experience in Printing and eCommerce.
  • Comprehensive legal knowledge (corporate law, litigations, labor law including unions, etc.).
  • In-depth understanding of how legal issues impact organizations.
  • Ability to develop legal strategy and objectives.
  • High degree of professional ethics, integrity, and gravitas.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Team-oriented.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Problem-solving ability and creative thinking for developing workable solutions.
  • Excellent judgement and analytical skills.
  • First class interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to anticipate legal issues or risks and to “see around the corner”.
