Senior Litigation Paralegal 

This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both virtually and from our Chicago office

What the day will look like

  • Prepare litigation hold notices, subpoena responses and/or objection letters, discovery responses, and settlement agreements.
  • Serve as principal manager of Aon’s litigation matter management system
  • Coordinate invoicing for legal vendors.
  • Organize, manage, and maintain hard-copy and electronic records in accordance with firm policies, legal holds, and case requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal and external counsel to assist with motion practice, court papers, and other legal documents.
  • Support all phases of discovery, including document review, document production and preparation of deposition witnesses.
  • Produce periodic budgeting and matter management reports for attorneys and Aon’s business and finance leaders.
  • Assist global litigation team with internal project initiatives and the preparation of Powerpoint presentations.
  • Perform factual and legal research using various tools including the Internet, Lexis/Nexis, PACER, etc.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information.
  • Act ethically, responsibly, and tactfully in compliance with firm policies, including Aon’s Business Code of Conduct.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • 10+ years of experience in corporate litigation practice, law firm preferred.
  • B.A. in a legal related field or equivalent experience is required, paralegal certificate or J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school preferred.
  • Direct eDiscovery experience a plus.
  • Prior experience managing junior paralegals or administrative staff a plus.

 

  • Experience and familiarity with all phases of litigation from pre-case assessment to appeal and post-trial work.
  • Experience drafting subpoena and discovery responses, as well as other formal letter responses.
  • Experience producing internal reports drawn from synthesis of information from attorneys and internal matter management systems (e.g., TeamConnect).
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, with ability to manage litigation team practice resource materials and “project manage” with respect to team initiatives.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of our organization.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with minimal supervision.
  • Strong technology skills, including extensive experience with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook, and the ability to craft and refine PowerPoint presentations.
  • Proficiency with Westlaw, Lexis/Nexis, PACER and other legal research and docket management tools, as well as with Relativity and document review platforms.
  • Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime on short notice.

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $85,000 to $105,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.  The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.
