Job Overview

The Associate General Counsel will serve as a senior member of the Legal department, reporting to the Chief Legal Officer. As a senior legal advisor to the company, the Associate General Counsel will provide timely legal guidance and thought partnership to leadership throughout the company. Additionally, the role will require the ability to draft complex transactional documents, manage litigation, steer important operational projects, and serve as a mentor to other Legal professionals on the team.

Job Responsibilities

An ideal candidate for this role will have had substantial experience (8-12+ years) advising businesses in a variety of practice areas, with a particular focus on these areas:

  • Employment & Labor
  • Securities & Corporate Governance
  • Strategic Transactions, Mergers & Acquisitions
  • Public Sector Contracts (Federal, State, and Municipal)
  • Legal Operations (Creation and management of contracts and other operational processes)
  • Data Privacy & Security
  • Intellectual Property and Software Licensing
  • Contracting and Regulations related to the Education (K-12) industry

Job Requirements

To be successful in this role, the Associate General Counsel should be equipped with a variety of skills complementary to corporate practice, with a particular focus on:

  • Education (K-12) industry experience: Familiarity with contracting and regulations related to this industry.
  • Business Acumen: Knowledge of business operations and demonstrated curiosity about the company, its people, and its products.
  • Excellent Communication: The ability to communicate clearly and concisely with stakeholders.
  • Leans into Innovation: Comfort with innovation and technology, as well as advising stakeholders in these areas.
  • Personal Diplomacy – The ability to listen to opposing viewpoints and advocate effectively and professionally for the company.
  • Deep Collaboration – The ability to work and guide successfully within the Legal department and on cross-functional teams.
  • People Leader – Experience and/or desire to serve as a people leader and mentor.
  • Initiative – A bias towards thoughtful action in service of our mission.

Education

A Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school, as well as admission to a U.S. state bar is required.
