The Legal Department is responsible for a broad range of activities including transactions, dispute resolution, compliance, labor and employment, and risk management. As a small team, we support many projects and offices, adding value and reducing risk. We aim to drive the growth of the business by providing legal solutions to business challenges.

The motivated and energetic Associate General Counsel will report to the General Counsel and engage in a variety of legal and compliance services across North America. Primary responsibilities of this position will include developing and managing the delivery of a portfolio of legal services to units within the Company. Construction and public procurement experience is strongly preferred.

This position requires excellent communications and people management skills and 10 or more years of post-bar qualification experience.

Job Responsibilities

Manage the delivery of a portfolio of legal services to business unit(s) within the Company. Ensure that the legal department promotes Company growth and profitability by creating opportunities, mitigating risk, enhancing reputation, and promoting ethical behavior.

Promote and implement legal department strategies provide best-in-class advice and counsel; deliver excellence in transaction forms and structures; leverage lessons learned to improve the business; build processes which are value-based, efficient, and scalable; zealously promote a safe, ethical, and legally compliant workplace; and promote company values and sustainability.

Review, draft, and negotiate technology project contracts for public and private projects, usually in the range of $20M to $150M. Manage legal deliverables in the Company response to customer Requests for Proposal presented by public and private entities. Negotiate agreements with customers for the design and implementation of material handling systems. “Follow the project” through the project delivery process, including supply chain, project execution, and service contracts.

Ensure the effectiveness of ethical and regulatory compliance programs which mitigate Company risk.

Build strong relationships with key stakeholders in Management, Sales, Project Execution, Supply Chain/Procurement, and Service departments. Proactively ensure involvement in legal issues, transactions, and risk mitigation efforts.

Utilize a creative, solution-oriented, and practical approach to resolving a wide variety of legal issues.

Support coordination and collaboration with other members of the Legal department. Mentor, develop, and supervise activities of more junior attorneys and supporting staff.

Requirements

At least 10 years of experience as a practicing attorney, including significant experience managing service delivery in a corporate legal department.

Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

Law Firm And Construction Law Experience Are Preferred.

Preferred candidates will have experience litigating complex construction disputes, including delay, disruption, and payment claims.

Strong academic credentials.

Excellent organizational skills and practices, including time and task management.

Passport and ability to travel internationally.

Ability to pass background check to the extent required to obtain clearance for TSA-secured areas of airport.

Travel

This position requires domestic and international travel, typically 10% of the time.
