Who We Are Looking For: We are seeking an experienced  Vice President, Legal – IP & Technology who will report to the HR & Technology Group, which is one of the four groups within the Law Department that reports to the Chief Legal Officer. The IP & Technology Group provides sophisticated advice on intellectual property and technology issues for a real estate company targeting nationwide expansion in the next 5 years. Your role would be to utilize your skills and knowledge through the research and analysis of intellectual property laws, regulations, and judicial precedents to develop the optimal business structure and transactional structure to support the growth of the Company in collaboration with the other members of the IP & Technology Group.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice and legal guidance on a wide range of intellectual property-related matters, including the proper registration of IP rights to protect the intellectual property of the company, the licensing and monetization (if and as appropriate) of some of the company’s IP rights, and the defense of the company’s IP rights whenever necessary.
  • Advise the company on the intellectual property implications of various business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions of various companies, reorganizations, and other financial transactions.
  • Stay updated on changes in both U.S. and international intellectual property laws and regulations and communicate the impact of these changes to the various legal and business groups within the company.
  • Collaborate with other professionals within the IP & Technology Group, the Law Department, and other business groups within the company to provide integrated legal and business solutions.
  • Supervise junior counsel, providing dance and support in their professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Texas Bar in good standing (or the ability to become admitted to the Texas Bar).
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience as a tax attorney.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property laws, regulations, and principles with the ability to apply that knowledge to complex business situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex intellectual property concepts.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • This position is in Downtown Houston, Texas 77002.
  • The salary range is between $104,000 and $143,000 and may be adjusted based on experience, education, knowledge, skills, and previous salary history.
  • This is a primarily on-site role (Monday through Friday). Given the nature of the business, we do not offer remote working opportunities.
  • The ideal candidate is seeking immediate employment and can be available to start immediately or within a maximum of two weeks upon final employment agreement.
