Grubhub is seeking a lawyer with commercial litigation experience in our Chicago or New York office. In this role, you will be responsible for advising internal clients and managing outside counsel in connection with commercial disputes and regulatory matters. The ideal candidate is a business-minded litigator who understands business objectives and helps balance legal risks under tight deadlines. This person is also a creative problem-solver, a self-starter with a great attitude, and a team player who is collaborative and yet comfortable making decisions. This position will report to our VP, Legal & Deputy General Counsel.

Some Challenges You’ll Tackle:

  • Management of a fast-paced docket of commercial litigation and regulatory matters across a wide range of subject areas
  • Create litigation team strategy to manage Grubhub’s risk profile and docket in a business-friendly cost-effective manner
  • Help supervise outside counsel to effectively and efficiently support and defend Grubhub’s initiatives, including staffing, budgeting and compliance with outside counsel guidelines
  • Interact with government and regulatory authorities, including responding to inquiries from regulators and efficiently resolving investigations
  • Participate in discovery, witness preparation and document collection and report on the status of these workstreams to senior attorneys at critical junctures
  • Demonstrate an ability to issue-spot sensitive legal and business concerns within complex disputes, adjust frequently and meet demanding deadlines
  • Manage of team of litigation paralegals and legal support staff

 

You Should Have:

  • JD degree with very strong academic credentials
  • 8+ years’ experience as a litigator at a major law firm or in-house legal department
  • In-house experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience managing a team of attorneys or legal support staff
  • Exceptional communication skills, with an ability to work cross-functionally
  • Class action experience, including experience defending consumer class actions across a range of claims
  • Superior analytical and writing skills and excellent business judgment, with the ability to weigh both legal and business implications of decisions
  • Strong work ethic, organization skills and ability to multitask, prioritize, and follow through on numerous projects simultaneously
  • Must be a team player who is willing to pitch in where needed in a fast-paced, growing company
  • Ability and desire to work autonomously
  • Member in good standing of the NY, IL, or comparable State Bar

New York Salary Range: $176k-$229k

The Base Pay component of our Total Rewards package is based on a variety of factors including but not limited to: job responsibilities, location, experience and, education/certifications. In addition to the pay component, this role may be eligible for equity and benefits as part of the Total Rewards package. The Total Rewards package will be determined at the time a contingent offer is made.
