PERFORMANCE SUMMARY: As a privately held and employee-owned manufacturing company with over 2000 employees, NIBCO’s legal counsel daily addresses multiple areas of law, including: corporate governance, acquisitions and divestitures, product liability, employment, intellectual property, contract, and regulatory compliance. NIBCO’s legal team also manages the corporate risk management and insurance program. Travel to various NIBCO sites, litigation events, and vendor meetings is occasionally required.

Responsibilities

Legal counsel will receive assignments from the General Counsel and the Assistant General Counsel. Typical work includes:

  • Review, drafting, and negotiation of contracts for capital purchases, raw materials, and service vendors supporting NIBCO’s infrastructure (e.g. IT contracts, equipment leases, etc.) and physical assets (e.g. building improvements and repairs).
  • Serve as a liaison between patent counsel and NIBCO’s engineering department.
  • Advise NIBCO’s marketing department on trademark maintenance and advertising compliance.
  • Work with NIBCO’s HR department to ensure compliance with employment and benefits laws, conduct investigations, and provide training to employees.
  • Provide strategic and tactical guidance to outside counsel in product liability and toxic tort litigation.
  • Work with various departments to gather documents and prepare witnesses in response to discovery requests.
  • Assist senior leadership with all aspects of acquisitions and divestitures.
  • Research and provide guidance on regulations impacting NIBCO’s core business activities (e.g. environmental compliance, Buy American Act, anti-trust, etc.).
  • Direct strategy for resolution of workers compensation cases.
  • Manage and track insurance claims.
  • Serve as liaison between NIBCO’s insurers, insurance brokers, and various NIBCO departments and manufacturing sites.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: NIBCO seeks to hire an attorney with at least 1-5 years of experience to join an already existing in-house legal and risk management team. Ideal candidates will have previous in-house experience or experience with a medium or large-sized law firm. Experience in multiple practice areas is a plus.

SKILLS REQUIRED: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required and formal presentation skills. Solid problem resolution skills required.
