DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented, motivated attorney to provide legal support to Amazon’s grocery business. This attorney will work with business and operations teams addressing customers’ retailing needs in new ways through revolutionary innovation.

The successful candidate must possess the ability to work efficiently and independently; think creatively and programmatically to proactively solve problems; manage high volumes of tasks and projects with little guidance; continually improve legal support programs and automate repetitive tasks; react with appropriate urgency and calmness to situations and events that require a quick response or turnaround; take effective action even without complete information; and roll up their sleeves to help the business with legal and non-legal issues. The successful candidate will be client-service oriented, and be able to think big while also paying great attention to detail on tight deadlines. The successful candidate will be able to prioritize appropriately and easily switch gears without sacrificing quality of work, maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling confidential information, and have the ability to work well with people at all levels inside and outside Amazon.

This role can sit in Seattle, WA or Arlington, VA.

Key job responsibilities
The attorney will be an integral part of the business, so they need to be extremely comfortable providing counsel directly to business leadership on both legal and business issues in the grocery retail space. Some specific responsibilities include reviewing and negotiating complex commercial contracts, providing support to retail operations, working closely with store operations and commercial colleagues; and streamlining legal review processes to support clients so they can continue to surprise and delight customers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Juris Doctor and membership in good standing of at least one state bar
- 5+ years of legal experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- In-house experience with physical retailers
- Experience supporting business and cross-functional teams as they grow and scale
- Ability to apply a high level of discretion, common sense, and good judgment to ambiguous situations
- Ability to work independently and directly with all levels of legal and business partners
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through, and meet deadlines.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $123,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
