Position Summary:

Provides legal support to the hospital and legal team including contract review, drafting and editing, use of, and legal and administrative support for, the legal teams contracting activities and contracts database system, negotiations as required for solicitations and agreements. Performs additional assigned tasks regarding litigation and legal matters involving the hospital.

Job Requirement

Education/Experience:

Equivalent to the completion of high school and either the completion of an accredited paralegal certification program and three (3) years of professional level experience in drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements or three (3) years of experience as a paralegal.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:

Valid Nevada State Driver's License.

Additional And/or Preferred Position Requirements


  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional level experience in contract administration and procurement/purchasing

Knowledge Of:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Contracts development, management and administration; state and county ordinances, policies, laws, regulations and procedures pertaining to contract preparation and processing; methods and techniques of legal research, discovery and fact investigation; principles of legal writing; federal and state statutes related to area of assignment; Nevada Revised Statutes; Nevada and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure; legal knowledge to maintain compliance with codes, laws and procedures; legal terminology, forms and documents; ethics of law practice; maintenance and storage of legal files; arithmetic calculations; correct business English; computer operations and software applications; department and hospital safety practice and procedures; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Skill In:

Drafting, analyzing and negotiating contract provisions and requirements to achieve departmental objectives; identifying legal issues; performing legal research and writing; preparing and organizing contract management, evidence and litigation files; negotiating settlements as directed by Legal Counsel; analyzing and developing specifications and solicitation documents for the procurement of goods and services; interpreting applicable codes, laws, and statutes; handling multiple contracts, cases and assignments and working effectively with interruptions; managing voluminous information and documents to assess claims and initial responses; using initiative and independent judgment; setting priorities and meeting established deadlines for multiple assignments; effectively communicating with all levels of management; managing conflict with vendors, patients, customers and outside legal counsel, in person and over the telephone; determining when to act independently and when to defer to legal counsel; time management to handle multiple tasks efficiently and accurately; using computers and related software applications; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions:

Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment; stamina to remain seated for long periods of time; vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
