Job Summary 

Handles moderate to complex legal matters and projects. Provides counsel to the company on legal rights and obligations pertaining to specialization in areas of law such as Employment, Labor Relations, Litigation, Environmental and Regulatory, Corporate Securities/M&A, etc. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

Assists in preparing, reviewing and, negotiating legal documents on the Company's behalf, and assists more experienced attorneys and management in representing the organization in legal disputes and transactions. 

Conducts legal research and drafts more significant Corporate legal documents. 

Provides general legal advice and counsel to management (Corporate, Market Area and/or District level) for strategy and policy development. Reviews legal publications and pending legislation and advises management of changes that impact the Company, business and industry. 

Conducts risk assessment in connection with customer, vendor, operations, industry and/or business issues. Advises management on most appropriate response or action. 

May be responsible for management of outside counsel activities as necessary including determining effective business and legal strategy to address litigation and/or other specific operations or Company needs. 

May work at the Corporate level or as directed within an Area. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities 

This job has no supervisory duties, but may occasionally act as a team lead. 

Qualifications 

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job. 

Education and Experience 

  • Juris Doctorate and four (4) or more years of previous experience.
  • At least 4 years working in large firm practicing in employment law or 4 years working in-house practicing employment law. 

 

Preferred Experience

The following experience areas are a plus, but not required:

  • Effectively advising management on day-to-day employment issues, including accommodations, leaves, discipline, termination.
  • Represented companies with respect to charges filed with federal and state government agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize projects.
