POSITION OVERVIEW:

The individual in this Senior Staff Counsel role will support the organization on a wide variety of litigation and risk related matters. Those matters include but are not limited to handling litigation matters for the company, providing guidance for resolution of customer issues, and responding to subpoenas. The Senior Staff Counsel – Litigation & Risk also will provide guidance to the organization on how to respond to and mitigate potential risks. This role requires someone with experience with a variety of civil litigation, such as contract disputes, consumer protection issues, class actions, franchise related disputes, and intellectual property related matters, as well as someone experienced in all aspects of litigation, including discovery, e-discovery, dispositive motions, alternative dispute resolution, settlement negotiation, and trial.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic advisor and project manager, with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, strong time- and project-management and prioritization skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage litigation matters for the organization, overseeing responses to pleadings and discovery requests, advising the organization on strategy, and negotiating efficient and economic resolutions of those legal matters
  • Work with other members of the legal team to issue spot and mitigate risk
  • Provide advice on limitation of liability and indemnification issues in contract negotiations
  • Identify, mitigate, and explain risks to business, including to senior level executives
  • Provide support and advice on records retention and other risk issues
  • Other duties as required based on business and legal needs

Specific Job Requirements

  • Law degree from an accredited law school
  • 3 or more years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge and experience in business and other civil litigation matters
  • Must possess excellent legal and business judgment, and be able and willing to learn new areas of law
  • Ability to work efficiently in a demanding environment
  • Ability to prioritize, work without supervision, and effectively manage various matters with competing deadlines
  • Ability to provide business-oriented advice
  • Occasional travel possible
