Debug is a Verily project that has developed proprietary technology that automates the rearing and release of millions of mosquitoes at scale to mitigate the spread of infectious disease. Debug’s end-to-end technology includes hardware, software, and processes for mosquito rearing and release, including facility design, automated larval rearing systems, process management, quality control, and release platforms. As Senior Debug Counsel, you will be a member of Verily’s Legal Department, and support Verily’s Debug business. You will counsel executives and the Debug teams on a broad array of environmental, product, commercial, government contracting, and IP laws and regulations that are implicated in the commercialization of Verily’s Debug business. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide counsel on all Debug matters, including regulatory compliance (EPA, FIFRA and similar state, local and OUS laws), managing disputes and enforcement actions, managing and maintaining intellectual property assets, and managing a high volume and wide range of commercial contracts, including licensing agreements, development agreements, services agreements, and leases/real estate agreements.
  • Provide counsel on the manufacture, marketing, deployment, and use of products, including product development, testing, approval, labeling, transportation, release and maintenance of products in the US and OUS.
  • Provide counsel on import/export requirements, product registration (and re-registration), and obtaining and maintaining all applicable authorizations/licenses/permits to bring product to market for sale and distribution, and ensure continued compliance with applicable environmental, safety and labeling regulations.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams as a key strategic partner to provide practical solutions to advance business and product goals, including working with international teams and local counsel on risk allocation and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement processes to achieve effective internal controls, stay informed of industry-specific regulations to support appropriate risk management strategies, and demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous/complex situations.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor from accredited institution and active member of at least one state bar.
  • 8+ years of attorney experience at a law firm or in-house with a multinational corporation (or a mix).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as product/regulatory counsel and commercial counsel.
  • Knowledge/interest in sterile insect technology.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $216,000 - $320,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
