The Legal Division is looking for a talented, problem-solving attorney with technology and intellectual property experience to join its Technology, Intellectual Property and Contracts team. The attorney will be responsible for advising, counseling, structuring and negotiating technology, market data, index and intellectual property-related transactions and contracts, including relating to internally developed and vendor provided Artificial Intelligence products, and supporting firmwide divisions, including Global Banking & Markets and Asset & Wealth Management.

The attorney will work in partnership with product legal teams and interact closely with stakeholders across the firm, including the Market Data Engineering team, in order to provide legal support in connection with the development of new products, services and partnerships and to provide subject matter expertise on a wide range of technology, market data, index and intellectual property-related transactions. This position also offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise as part of an experienced in-house market data legal team

Responsibilities

  • Partner with vendor relationship managers to review licensing terms and advise on new products and services. 
  • Work closely with internal business clients and product attorneys to draft and negotiate contracts and implement processes and policies in order to create operational efficiencies and consistency in risk management. 
  • Provide advice and counsel on financial services-related technology and intellectual property-related products and transactions with a focus on data and analytics services, data and index licensing, open source licensing, data security, and data use issues.
  • Draft, structure and negotiate a variety of intellectual property licenses, including complex data-related partnerships and market data vendor agreements. 
  • Instruct/work with/manage external counsel and consultantsWe work at the intersection of finance and law, providing counsel and advice that support activities across the firm. We handle litigation and arbitration, perform research and due diligence, aid in financing and legal filings, deal with contracts and intellectual property rights that show our commitment to clients, shareholders, and regulators. Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of technology and intellectual property laws. 
  • 3-6 years’ post qualification legal experience required.
  • Preference for experience in financial services or fin-tech and/or focus on market data and index licensing.
  • Team player with inherent commercial judgement and strong analytical skills. 
  • Strong oral and written communications skills. 
  • High level of initiative, integrity, and organization.
    • Comfortable engaging with senior executives across a host of disciplines and businesses.
    • Significant project management skills to simultaneously manage the analysis and implementation of new products and initiatives

Salary Range
The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $170000-$270000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
