Patent Agent

BioNTech is seeking a U.S.-based Patent Agent to contribute to the extraordinary growth of its world-leading Infectious Disease franchise. BioNTech’s rapidly expanding pipeline of Infectious Disease product candidates and coterie of preeminent researchers and creative business partners will challenge you to draw upon the full scope of your legal and technical skills, all while growing your practice and addressing interesting and unique IP matters. You will bring to the position a foundation in biotechnology (Ph.D. in Immunology, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry preferred) and patent prosecution (registration with the USPTO required). Ideally, you will be in the greater Boston area, although remote work with a willingness to travel to Cambridge, MA on a reasonable/as needed basis is an option. The position will report to the Patent Counsel, Intellectual Property. As you grow each day in your job, you will develop patent portfolio strategies for number of business-critical patent portfolios, interact with outside counsel, support existing and new collaborations, and conduct IP competitive intelligence.   • Executing worldwide patent prosecution strategies; contributing to patentability, FTO and other analyses.
  • Collaborating with leading commercial and university partners on a variety of cutting-edge programs.
  • Identifying a range of complex risks (e.g., patentability, infringement) and communicating those risks to internal stakeholders for discussion and resolution.
  • Providing support in determining inventorship, aiding with obtaining and maintaining patent-related documents.
  • Analyzing patents, scientific journal papers, and documents.
  • Opportunities to work with other attorneys in the department and outside of IP area, including executive leadership.

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 plus years of experience, USPTO Registration. A firm grasp of molecular biology concepts or other pharmaceutical field with experience in patent preparation and prosecution.
  • A solid record of performance in either a law firm, biotech company, or equivalent.
  • Must be self-motivating, prioritize and manage work, and show attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in dynamic, fast-paced team environment, flexible and responsive and self-starter with the ability to act independently as well as collaboratively across the business.
  • A willingness to become part of and contribute to BioNTech‘s unique, diverse, and international culture.

Preferred requirements : Advanced degree (PhD) in microbiology, biochemistry, and immunology.
