What you’ll do

In this critical role on AlixPartners’ Legal, Compliance and Risk Team, you will interact with global management, multiple Corporate Services departments, and client-facing personnel. The Legal Counsel’s primary responsibilities involve assignments and duties in the areas of litigation, along with some exposure to employment issues and general risk management. This position will involve immediate responsibility in a complex environment and require a high degree of collaboration with both business professionals and other legal professionals.

The Legal Counsel position is a full-time role located in Southfield, MI and reporting to the Associate General Counsel. Paid relocation is not available for this position.

  • Respond to third-party subpoenas and discovery requests issued to the firm.
  • Coordinate and assist with the implementation and oversight of document preservation and legal holds. 
  • Coordinate and assist with the implementation of information barriers.
  • Manage litigation matters filed by or against the firm, including developing and communicating internal strategy, coordinating discovery responses, conducting internal fact investigations, and overseeing outside counsel.
  • Effectively communicate with internal stakeholders regarding litigation matters.
  • Provide legal counsel on employment-related issues, as needed.
  • Assist with other risk management matters coordinated by the Legal, Compliance, and Risk Team.

What you’ll need

  • Graduate of an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in Michigan.
  • Minimum three (3) years legal experience in litigation. 
  • Familiarity with e-discovery.
  • Knowledge and understanding of state and federal employment laws preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, including the ability to communicate detailed and complex information to others. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to organize self and others.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and excellent proofreading skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and within a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and respond to urgent situations as needed, prioritizing multiple business objectives, and meeting deadlines and milestones for projects assigned.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people across cultures and geographic locations to deliver consistent and timely results.
  • Able to handle and protect confidential, sensitive information.
  • Willingness to work outside of normal U.S. business hours, and as unique projects/needs arise.
  • Ability to work full time in an office and remote environment; physically able to sit/stand at a computer and work in front of a computer screen for significant portions of the workday.
