Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from a law school accredited by an organization

recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)

or by the United States Department of Education (USDE) with a

Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

  • Eight years full-time, wage-earning legal experience, litigation,

trial, or contract law experience with at least four years as legal

counsel in a governmental agency or private practice, specializing in

criminal, administrative, or labor/employment law.

  • Four years full-time, wage-earning experience in the supervision

of employees.

  • Must maintain current active license to practice law in the State

of Texas during employment with the Texas Department of Criminal

Justice (TDCJ) through the State Bar of Texas or other appropriate

Texas licensing authority.

  • The salary for an ERS Retiree (or non-contributing member) may be

reduced by 2.5%.
