Description

Reporting organisationally to the General Counsel, the Sr Counsel (Senior Manager Level) of Event Legal will be a key member of the FIFA26 Legal team and other key individuals responsible for legal aspects of events, including contracts, compliance, and risk management. Further, this role will oversee legal risks, disputes and claims, and legal information and guidance in a non-attorney capacity.

THE POSITION

The main responsibilities and oversights of the Sr Counsel of Event Legal for the FIFA World Cup 26™ include:

  • Oversee legal matters related to the FIFA World Cup 2026 event, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and FIFA requirements.
  • Manage and negotiate contracts with various stakeholders, including host cities, sponsors, broadcasters, vendors, and service providers.
  • Develop and implement legal strategies to protect the event's intellectual property rights and trademarks.
  • Identify and assess legal risks associated with the event and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with FIFA regulations, codes of conduct, and ethical standards throughout the event planning and execution process.
  • Stay updated on relevant legal developments and industry trends to provide proactive legal advice and ensure compliance with evolving regulations.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including government authorities, legal advisors, and law enforcement agencies, to ensure smooth operations and adherence to legal requirements.
  • Develop and deliver legal training programs and materials for event staff and volunteers to enhance legal awareness and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive legal records, contracts, and documentation related to the event.
  • Provide timely and accurate legal reports and updates to senior management and relevant committees.
  • Lead and manage the Event Legal department, providing guidance and professional development in order to make the team and tournament successful.
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Counsel.

YOUR PROFILE

 

  • Bachelor's Degree or similar level of education in Law, etc.
  • Enrolled in a State Bar Association in at least 1 U.S. State (Preferably Florida, New York, California, and/or Texas).
  • Minimum of 6 years of work experience in a legal function
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both oral and written
  • Highly analytical and strong attention to detail
  • Team player, willing to work on tight timelines
  • Ability to lead, manage, and motivate a team
  • Fluent in English
  • Spanish and/or French proficiency is a plus
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio & Project) and planning software and online collaboration tools
