Overview & Responsibilities

An exciting IP role is open in the Intellectual Property Legal team at Paramount Global! We seek an attorney for the Senior Counsel role with experience in trademark clearance, prosecution and enforcement. The person will join a pro-active and longstanding team of attorneys and IP specialists that support Paramount and each of its businesses including BET, CBS Studios, CBS Network, CBS Sports, CBS News and Stations, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, Paramount+, Pluto TV, among others.

This position is responsible for providing intellectual property advice and counseling for our businesses and protecting certain divisions of the Paramount trademark portfolio and copyright works. The role evolves as the media landscape evolves, and we seek someone with proven experience adapting to change. The attorney will be responsible for clearance for titles and other content, prosecution and maintenance of the trademark portfolio in the U.S. and working with counsel in international jurisdictions. Trademark enforcement involves reviewing and advising clients of potential claims and infringements in various media, issuing cease and desist letters, preparing domestic oppositions, filing UDRPs and engaging and overseeing foreign counsel for foreign advice and oppositions, along with defending third party claims and drafting related IP settlement and acquisition agreements. Copyright enforcement involves analyzing copyright, fair use, parody and other issues and providing guidance to our businesses and defending claims. The attorney will work with the rest of the team to support the overall intellectual property protection efforts of the company worldwide.

Basic Qualifications

 

  • 8+ years of experience with trademark portfolio management at a major law firm and/or an in-house position
  • JD degree from accredited law school with bar admission; excellent academic credentials and continuing legal education in IP – member of New York or California bar
  • Proficient in trademark law and copyright law and online enforcement with shown success at influencing and using initiative to achieve results

  • Ability to quickly acquire organizational and business awareness is a key success factor
  • Superior work ethic, highly organized and ability to handle fast-paced environment and numerous projects simultaneously
  • Ability to adapt legal work to the changing digital landscape
  • Experience in the entertainment industry a plus
  • Law firm or in-house trademarks experience
  • TTAB experience

Additional Information

Hiring Salary Range: $156,800.00 - 194,000.00. The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
