The Corporate Securities Team of the General Counsel’s Organization is seeking a Vice President & Senior Counsel to advise on corporate securities and corporate governance matters and lead the implementation of new disclosure requirements.

Here’s just some of what you will do in this role:

  • Provide legal counsel and strategic support on a wide range of disclosure issues and corporate transactions
  • Monitor, review and advise colleagues worldwide on key policy and regulatory issues and evolving disclosure trends
  • Engage in strategic projects, such as the implementation of new climate-related rules in the United States and international jurisdictions
  • Advise on corporate governance matters and disclosure control process enhancements
  • Proactively protect the brand and reputation of American Express through legal advice and guidance regarding company disclosures and securities law compliance
  • Build and leverage your leadership and subject matter expertise to serve as an engaging mentor, advisor and leader to colleagues in the General Counsel’s Organization and across the Enterprise

Skills and Qualifications:

  • J.D. with admission to practice law in the United States
  • 8+ years' work experience in one or more of: securities, capital markets, corporate governance
  • Prior experience at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as well as in-house securities work or firm issuer representation on disclosure issues
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal matters clearly and concisely to non-specialists
  • Must work well in cross-functional team settings
  • Ability to build relationships and partner with others to drive results
  • Independent, capable of handling multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Capacity to be agile and pivot appropriately when challenged with new information or evolving circumstances
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong leadership skills and strong customer focus
  • A positive attitude, growth mentality, will to win and a great teammate

Salary Range: $220,000 to $320,000 annually + bonus + benefits
