Job Summary

The Technology Attorney delivers on our Purpose by acting as a legal contact for Technology Supply Chain Management, Technology, and other departments in negotiating, drafting, and reviewing complex technology contracts. This role collaborates with Legal Department colleagues on legal and regulatory issues related to technology contracts, emphasizing privacy, security, and regulatory compliance. The Technology Attorney is an analytical thinker with strong communication skills who is ready to drive the future of Southwest.

This role is a hybrid position based out of our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX, which requires Employees to work onsite on our Corporate Campus at least three days a week. The Department designates the specific three days of the week Employees must work on-site.

Responsibilities  
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements
  • Analyze and interpret existing Company agreements to provide legal advice and guidance
  • Provide legal counsel and guidance regarding applicable laws, regulations, and policies to multiple departments within the Company
  • Collaborate with legal department colleagues on a variety of legal, regulatory and policy issues
  • Provide legal support and advice to support compliance with the Company’s corporate policies
  • Perform other duties requiring legal research and analysis and/or negotiations as may be requested
  • May be required to perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  
  • Skilled in written and oral communication, ability to work effectively with all levels of Southwest Employees, Southwest executives, clients, outside counsel, vendors, and others
  • Skilled in interpersonal relationships, ability to work well with others as part of a team
  • Ability to perform well under pressure
  • Ability to exercise judgment sufficient to handle and resolve issues related to sensitive and confidential legal matters
  • Ability and willingness to gain expertise and perform work in new areas of the law
  • Ability to be proactive, have excellent organizational skills, and perform efficiently and effectively on multiple projects under tight deadlines
 
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Required: Law degree from accredited school
Experience
  • Intermediate level experience, expansive and far reaching knowledge as a licensed practicing attorney with a practice focus on corporate law and commercial transactions
  • Preferred: Experience with data protection/privacy, cybersecurity, and AI contract issues/topics
Licensing/Certification
  • Must be a current member in good standing of a bar association
Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from work station/desk/office area for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be willing to travel when required for the job
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule to include non-business days and hours as needed to meet client needs


Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $161,500 per year to $175,000 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
