Job Description

This Associate General Counsel and Managing Director will lead a section of legal professionals supporting the global Markets businesses within Wells Fargo's Corporate & Investment Bank (CIB).

Specifically, This Leader Will

  • Provide legal support to Wells Fargo's global Markets businesses, including the Equities, Foreign Exchange, Municipal Products, Credit Sales & Trading, and Rates, Commodities & CVA business lines, with shared responsibility for the Structured Products Group
  • Coordinate legal support for the International Markets business with the Associate General Counsel leading the International legal team
  • Continually refine the service catalog of and the operating model for the global coverage of the Markets businesses, with a focus on effectiveness and efficiency
  • Participate on the Corporate & Investment Bank, Technology, Innovation and Information Legal Division leadership team, coordinating with other leaders to provide legal support for CIB, Technology and SDI and the Enterprise as a whole
  • Influence strategic direction and provide expert, innovative, timely and reliable legal advice
  • Work with other leaders and subject matter experts in the Legal Department to provide comprehensive solutions to complex problems and needs
  • Follow and ensure consistent application of Enterprise and Legal Department policies and procedures, including the management of outside counsel
  • Coach and mentor others, including providing guidance and direction in alignment with CIBTII and Legal Department strategic goals

The Candidate

The successful candidate for this role will demonstrate the leadership skill necessary to design, build and lead a high-performing team of legal professionals to drive business results through leadership effectiveness and employee engagement; to contribute to broad Enterprise strategy with a One Wells Fargo lens; and to further our strong risk management culture by living the Expectations of Wells Fargo. This leader must be capable of initiating action and managing change while also collaborating with and influencing others. The position requires a strong leader capable of designing and managing complex processes and projects and building relationships across the Legal Department and the Enterprise. A key differentiator will be the ability to understand and operate successfully in a complex, heavily matrixed corporate environment. The role requires a sense of urgency, a passion for generating results, and personal accountability for achievement and outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of Law experience, or equivalent experience demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 4+ years of management experience
  • Active State Bar membership or the equivalent in a country outside the United States

Desired Qualifications:


  • Experience dealing with:
    • Derivatives and structured products
    • Fixed income and equities sales and trading
    • Commodities and foreign exchange
    • Prime brokerage and securities finance
    • Municipal underwriting
  • Previous experience covering sales and trading activities, derivatives and structured products in a major law firm or in-house legal department
  • Experience leading and managing teams, with emphasis on geographically dispersed teams
  • Experience working in large, matrixed organizations providing general legal advice and support in connection with risk and regulatory issues
  • Understanding of complex business activities and operations and strong process and project management skills
  • Ability to adapt quickly to a changing environment while building relationships and negotiating for positive business outcomes while effectively managing legal risk.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Proven ability to create and sustain effective, influential, and trusted relationships with business and staff group leaders
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Pay Range

$249,500.00 - $518,300.00
