Position Overview: Verra Mobility is seeking to hire a Deputy General Counsel to serve as a senior lawyer supporting corporate shared services and legal department operations, reporting to the Chief Legal Officer.

This position is a skilled generalist role, and among other things, will be responsible for legal support to corporate functions, risk mitigation and dispute resolution, intellectual property, and department operations. The position reports to the Chief Legal Officer and collaborates with other high-functioning lawyers and professionals in the law department to support Verra Mobility legal, government relations, and compliance matters. Local candidates (greater Phoenix metro area) preferred.

Responsibilities :

The key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing, reviewing and negotiating corporate commercial contracts.
  • Leading litigation matter management, managing outside counsel, and strategic leadership regarding dispute resolution.
  • Working with outside counsel and internal and external subject matter experts to mitigate risk and maximize business outcomes.
  • Providing legal advice related to corporate services matters and surge support for various business units.
  • Leading department operations.
  • Oversight and support for internal investigations.
  • Keeping informed of industry-specific regulations and ensuring that appropriate risk management strategies are developed, communicated, and followed.
  • Providing support to IP, licensing, corporate governance, compliance, government relations, and supporting M&A transactions, as required.
  • Developing and/or assisting in the development of legal-related budget recommendations for the organization.
  • Ability to work productively and professionally with legal counsel representing the company's customers, prospective customers, vendors and other business partners to advance the Company's objectives while building and maintaining important relationships.
  • A hands-on leader, managing and inspiring professionals (lawyers and non-lawyers) in the Legal Department.

Qualifications :

  • Must be a member in good standing of one state bar and have 9+ years of experience (in-house experience preferred).
  • Detail-oriented and executive presence.
  • Significant experience related to commercial contracts and litigation and dispute resolution.
  • A can-do attitude and demonstrated leadership capability, with a desire to lead and inspire.
  • The ability to successfully navigate complex organizations, and comfort with ambiguity, risk, and uncertainty.
  • Curiosity coupled with a high degree of integrity and forethought in making decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex legal issues in a simple, understandable manner with colleagues of varying legal knowledge across the company and to senior leaders.
  • Strong collaborative skills, able to build partnerships and alliances internally and with external partners at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively manage external parties.
  • Desire to develop, mentor, challenge, inspire, and lead a team.
  • Occasional travel may be required (less than 10% expected).
