Job Title: Director Litigation Counsel _(this position is Hybrid working 2 days a week in the Denton Texas Support Center)

Essential Function

Handles or manages a variety of litigation, including general liability, product liability, trademark, patent, and contract disputes. Manages pre-litigation processes to anticipate and guard against legal risks involving the company. Responsible for hiring and managing outside counsel for litigation matters. Handles routine to complex legal matters for assigned business units to ensure maximum protection of the company’s legal rights and to maintain its operations within the limits prescribed by law. Work with internal partners to manage responses to government agencies in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree, law degree, and law license in good standing required
  • At least 7 years practicing law with a strong law firm background
  • Experience working as in-house counsel for a company in the consumer or retail sectors would be preferred
  • Actual trial experience strongly preferred
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills and unquestioned ethics and integrity

Primary Duties

50% Handle all litigation matters through efficient use of internal resources and outside counsel (excludes employment litigation).

20% Develop and manage processes to anticipate and reduce the legal risks for pre-litigation matters.

10% Provide guidance and oversight to internal partners when responding to government agencies in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.

15% Provide advice and counsel on routine and complex legal matters that arise in day-to-day business activities.

5% Manage and develop legal support staff.

Working Conditions And Physical Requirements

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; using a keyboard, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
