PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Assistant General Counsel II Healthcare Identifies and manages complex legal issues related to the Company's healthcare businesses. The incumbent is responsible to develop and implement creative solutions and regularly advise senior staff on matters of strategic importance to the Company's businesses.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Has wide-ranging experience, and uses professional concepts in developing resolution to critical issues and broad design matters.
  • Provides legal advice and support concerning all aspects of healthcare law with particular emphasis on regulatory compliance, commercial contract review, advice, negotiations and transactions for various business lines specific to Privacy matters.
  • Assists in the formulation of business strategies, structuring and development of new businesses, programs and processes relating to FMCNA healthcare operations and reimbursement for healthcare services.
  • Provides a variety of legal counsel and support to functional and/or operational groups within the company.
  • Participates in the resolution of a wide range of business, contractual, financial and operational issues relating to healthcare operations and healthcare reimbursement.
  • Collaborates with the internal Government Affairs team to develop advocacy strategies related to key policy issues.
  • Establishes working relationships with professional organizations, trade associations and other key third parties to influence outcomes of critical policy issues.
  • Manages law firms and other outsourced resources involved in key healthcare operations and reimbursement projects to optimize project outcomes.
  • Works across the organization and develops strong internal and external relationships to achieve operational goals and objectives.
  • Manages outside counsel and other consultants on long-term legal/regulatory projects.
  • Provides assistance to other staff with complex tasks that require considerable judgment and initiative.
  • May escalate difficult/complex issues to supervisor/manager for resolution, as deemed necessary.
  • Assist with various projects as assigned by a direct supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION :

  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited school required.
  • Master of Public Health or Master of Business Administration preferred .

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Minimum 5 years' related experience as a practicing attorney
  • Experience in commercial and/or healthcare regulatory compliance.
  • License to practice law in at least one state.
  • Strong legal analytical, research, drafting, negotiation and communication skills required.
  • Highly motivated, detail oriented, organized and must possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with PCs and Microsoft Office applications.
