Positions in this function provide legal advice and services on issues concerning the rights, obligations, and privileges of the organization. The position will protect the organization's rights in contract negotiations, settlements and litigation. In this role you will provide a full range of legal advice and services and may specialize in one of more areas such as mergers and acquisitions, commercial law, contracts law, benefit law, securities, anti-trust investigations, tax law, regulatory and compliance. Generally work is self-directed and not prescribed. This position requires a J.D.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with less structured, more complex issues
  • Serve as a resource to others
  • Support the Optum Behavioral Health provider network business unit, including provider disputes
  • Interact with internal business units and network providers
  • Advise internal clients on legal issues
  • Coordinate network issues with the Compliance, Privacy, and Regulatory legal teams
  • Develop streamlined, innovative contracting procedures, including Value-Based Contracting
  • Continuous process improvement of provider agreement templates, including initiating updates based on business and regulatory needs
  • Advise on and oversee regulatory filing of provider network agreement templates

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree
  • 5+ years of experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts
  • Experience collaborating across a matrixed business and legal environment
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Understanding of business problems related to assigned legal projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare experience
  • Behavioral Health experience
  • Experience advising companies in negotiation and drafting of complex professional services agreements in the healthcare industry
  • Exposure to / experience with data privacy issues

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
