Job Summary:

The Complex Claims Operations Lead Attorney provides direction and support for claim processing for the Complex Claims Operations Team. They manage a staff of attorneys and analysts providing oversight and training on processing operations. They employ legal analysis, research, and drafting skills to provide insight on all aspects of case administration. The Claims Operations Lead Attorney also does reporting and analysis to provide quality assurance and early identification of case trends. They oversee processing of claims and correspondences and provide guidance on difficult and complicated records. They work closely with the Claims Leadership and Client Services to ensure effective, accurate administration of class action cases. NOTE: This is a client facing role

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Supervises employees and/or contingent staff including training and oversight on systems, general processing, and case-specific information and processes. Actively communicates with staff to address questions and communicate evolving case requirements.
  • Works closely with Client Services team and performs independent review of primary documents to obtain in-depth understanding of settlement requirements. Advises on processing procedures and best practices; helps frame key issues and questions for client decision.
  • Develops understanding of Claims Services and Data Services teams and how to utilize their resources for case administration. Acts as a knowledge and communication hub to advise on case set-up, defecting, import and to coordinate with other teams throughout case lifecycle.
  • Takes responsibility for quality of processing including developing auditing and reporting tools to review case health and identify issues. Coordinates with Quality Control team to align priorities and rapidly respond to quality concerns.
  • Maintains working knowledge of processing support software and tools. Adapts to changing technology and is able to help team members learn new and changing systems.
  • Directs workflow on assigned cases; monitors SLAs and manages work assignment, staffing allocation, and case timelines to ensure deadlines and objectives are met and communicate risks to Claims Leadership and Client Services.
  • Provides leadership to 5-10 assigned team members giving regular feedback, performance coaching, and promoting professional growth and development.

Qualifications & Characteristics

  • Bachelor's degree, JD, and license to practice in one or more jurisdictions required
  • 2+ years in claims analysis work
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Leadership: builds relationships based on mutual respect and acts decisively in consultation with others
  • Writing: writes and edits communications to concisely convey complex concepts; adopts tone appropriate for communicating with different stakeholders
  • Settlement Agreement Review: reads and comprehends settlement agreements, notices, complaints, and other case documents to gain in-depth understanding of case requirements
  • Drafting: drafts communications to claimants and claimants’ counsel precisely conveying complex concepts related to claim submissions
  • Review Documents: reviews and determines sufficiency of various legal documentation including PoAs, assignments, and estate documentation
  • Research: conducts research into wide variety of legal topics to better understand and contextualize matters related to claim administration; creatively identifies external resources that support claim analysis
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, familiarity with Microsoft Access
  • Communication: asks questions; confirms understanding with the audience; learns and adopts best practices for written word exchanges with claimants
  • Problem Solving: seeks resolution despite roadblocks; identifies alternative routes to the goal
  • Critical Thinking: switches perspectives when considering solutions, to identify gaps and optimize results
  • Navigates Ambiguity: works through the unknown strategically
  • Organization: tracks a variety of assignments by priority, and quickly switches between tasks
  • Troubleshooting: leverages systems and tools knowledge to locate and repair root causes for error
  • Data Interpretation: accurately assesses claim data to drive the highest level of claimant service
  • Proprietary Software: understands the underlying structure of databases and other common tools for business administration, and learns new tools rapidly
  • Vision: continuously conceives of and aspires toward long-term change, while effectively executing short-term goals
