Provides advice to company on employment-related legal issues. Responds to and represents company in various types of employment claims brought by current and former employees through government agencies and other avenues. Manages and directs outside counsel in all employment litigation. Develops and leads training for business partners on employment-law matters. Works with business partners to achieve compliance with various rules and regulations required by federal, state or local laws.

Position is based in Memphis, Tennessee, and is a hybrid work environment (three days in office, two days remote) with some travel, as work responsibilities dictate.

Responsibilities

 

  • Provide advice and counsel on employment law issues, including hiring, discipline, terminations, pay and benefits.
  • Direct investigations surrounding employee-related issues and provides advice to company management regarding resolution.
  • Advise company management on employee-related matters and issues. Includes review and recommendations on policies, procedures and legal requirements.
  • Recommend measures to achieve compliance with legal requirements enacted by various governmental entities.
  • Create and lead training for business partners.
  • Respond to and defend government claims (i.e., EEOC charges, wage and hour investigations, etc.).
  • Respond to employee and former employee complaints presented through private attorneys.
  • Manage and direct outside counsel in all employment-related litigation.
  • Participate in mediations and settlement conferences on behalf of the company.
  • Produce discovery documents and acts as liaison with company witnesses.
  • Travel, as needed, for trials, mediations/settlement conferences and as required.

Requirements

 

  • Juris Doctorate degree (JD) from an ABA-accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of civil litigation experience with a law firm or in-house. Preference given for employment law experience
  • Admitted to Tennessee bar or eligible for admission as in-house counsel
